News, inspiration and behind the scenes
Gentleman wore dressing gowns and matching smoking caps at home and in smoking lounges in the 19th and 20th century. The robes and caps were fashioned in warm and rather heavy, tobacco smoke absorbing fabric such as velvet, quilted silk and wool, often decorated with tassels. Due to the absence of central heating in the 19th century, dressing gowns became a staple of any gentleman's wardrobe and synonymous with comfort, while a smoking cap was the perfect gift to create for fiancé or husband.
Our dressing gowns have a silk shawl collar, turn-up cuffs and pocket accents, which are entirely quilted by hand. Both understated and bold, the quilted detailing adds a finishing touch to the traditional style of this robe. They have two deep side pockets, one chest pocket, a long waist-tie and full lining. The Baturina Homewear dressing gowns are made by hand in limited numbers and can be personalized with monogramming and made with custom measurements. Each design is the result of hours of loving craftwork. Fabrics featured in our dressing gowns are available in small quantities, meaning that you can be sure to wear a rare garment.
